Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It's a blend of reggaeton with pop that not only brought new attention to reggaeton, but more interest in Latin music. In 2015, there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's success in 2017, 19 tracks primarily written in Spanish were in into the Top 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, a number of popular artists began collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018), while Madonna and Maluma joined forces on Medellin and Medellin in 2019 Some reggaeton artists were unhappy about the trend toward mainstream music in the year 2020. Yet a new group, Rauw alejandro, was determined to alter the direction of music. In his music, he often used elements from electronic dance music as well as other types.
