April Ross, a beach volleyball star from America she is part of the elite category of females who have won medals in several Olympics. The American will play in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman who is a first time Olympian. However, more importantly Ross is aiming to capture her first Olympic gold. This may be the last time she has the chance at age 39. She is still confident, however. Ross was born in 1982 and was raised within Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started competing in sports at Newport Harbor High School. Ross went on to play in a myriad of sports as a student at Newport Harbor High School. In addition to indoor volleyball, she took part in basketball and jogged track as a pre-professional athlete. She clearly was the top in the game of indoor volleyball. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker out hitter and setter on the volleyball court, according to her college bio. The effort was recognized with her being named the 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National Players of the Year. Her volleyball skills also earned her an Orange County Athlete of the Awards in 2000. Although Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight from 2017 onward, the former was already an established player on the beach scene long before their pairing. Her name has appeared in major events with different teams. The other has become an icon of the volleyball world. In the period 2007-2013 she played together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Together, Kessy Ross was an active participant in the world circuit, winning one of the biggest titles in the world in 2009. The two eventually clinched gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Through her final two years playing for the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them achieve consecutive championships. In her own way she established herself as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award went to the highest female collegiate player from the United States. Ross studied international relations at USC. Sadly, Ross mother Margie never got to see her daughter reach the most elite levels in beach volleyball's acclaim. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001.
